CentOS 5.5 Netinstall – Network Installation

This guide is updated 17.5.2010, after CentOS 5.5 version release.

Download CentOS 5.5 Net Install (NetInstall) or LiveCD Image

Select mirror here:
i386 version
x86_64 version

Select ISO image
CentOS-5.5-i386-netinstall.iso
CentOS-5.5-x86_64-netinstall.iso
or alternatively (if you want test CentOS before install), select LiveCD
CentOS-5.5-i386-LiveCD.iso
CentOS-5.5-x86_64-LiveCD.iso

Burn Image to CD and Boot Computer Using CentOS 5.5 Installation CD

Check CentOS image MD5 sum and burn image to CD with your favourite CD burner. And boot computer using CentOS Installation CD.

Select Network Installation (NetInstall) on Grub Menu

Booting CentOS 5.5 Installer

Choose a Language

Select keyboard type

Select Network Installation Method

Configure TCP/IP settings

Setup Network Installation Web site name and CentOS directory

Web site name: mirror.centos.org
CentOS directory for i386: /centos/5.5/os/i386
CentOS directory for x86_64: /centos/5.5/os/x86_64

Downloading Installer

Select Text Mode Installation or VNC Installation

This guide uses “text mode installation”.

Welcome to CentOS Screen

Select Partitioning Type

This guide uses “Create custom layout” option.

Add Partition

Ready Custom Partition Layout

Boot Loader Configuration

Which Boot Loader?

Set kernel boot options, if needed

Set Grub password, if needed

Set boot devices and boot labels

Select where to install bootloader, Master Boot Record (MBR) or First sector of boot partition

Configure Network Interface

Configuration for eth0 Network Interface

Setup Hostname or Use Automatic via DHCP

Select Time Zone

Set Root Password

Select packages for Installation

Installing Selected Packages

Dependency check

Start package install

Installing packages

Installation Completed, Reboot
